StarWars.com announced yesterday that December will see the release of The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, by Phil Szostak. Expect the book to contain behind-the-scenes details from the film's creative team, in addition to our first official look at a plethora of new images.

Bursting with hundreds of beautiful works of art that include production paintings, concept sketches, storyboards, blueprints, and matte paintings, The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens will delight both Star Wars fans and film enthusiasts for years to come.

Szotak is an image archivist at Lucasfilm and previously worked on the unreleased Star Wars 1313 video game. The foreward by Rick Carter ("a REAL desert"), who is serving as a production designer on The Force Awakens and who has worked on some of the most successful films of the last three decades, should be a treat.

As someone who did take a peek at a few of the pieces of concept art that leaked during production, I'm interested to see if anything in the book has appeared online already, in unofficial avenues.

The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be released on December 18. You can pre-order the book from Amazon.
